Special Education Preschool Program

Continuum of Supports & Services Preschool Program

Preschool specialized academic instruction targets student needs across domains to include; pre-academics, communication development, social/emotional/behavioral functioning, gross motor and fine motor development, adaptive/daily living skills, and health/medical needs. In addition to this targeted individualized instruction for students with special needs, preschool students receive general preschool curriculum exposure/education and access to typically developing peers for social/language modeling and interaction.

If your child is under the age of three and you have concerns regarding their development, please contact HOPE Infant Family Support Program or San Diego Regional Center.

Preschool Assessment - Speech & Language Concerns

If you have concerns regarding your child’s speech or language development and would like a speech screening for your child aged 2 years, 9 months to five years old, please contact Diana Salazar-Garcia at 760-331-5067 or diana.salazar-garcia@carlsbadusd.net to request a speech and language screening.

It is important to know that there is a wide range of typical speech development in young children.  This chart shows at what age 90% of children can articulate English consonants correctly. Vowels are correctly produced by the age of three. All children do not develop at the same time and in the same way, so we cannot expect all children in the primary grades to produce all sounds 100% correctly until around the age of 9.
