Security Projects Phase I

When most of the Carlsbad Unified School District campuses were built, societal norms regarding safety and security were not viewed the same as they are today. Schools have traditionally been open to the public. Volunteers, parents and the general public have been welcome on campus wherever and whenever they have the time to help. Schools are now looking to ensure that once the school day begins there is just one, securable ‘single point of entry.’

With that shift in mindset, the District reviewed each site to evaluate its fencing and security camera needs. Each of the campuses received new security fencing and security cameras. In addition to these upgrades, the District met with a hardware specialist, to create a District standard for a card reader/lockdown function lockset. Incrementally, as the Bond Program completes modernizations at various schools these locksets are being installed.
