Trustee Area Elections and Maps

To find your voting district, you can search your home address in this interactive map. (Please note this works best on a desktop.)

  1. Enter your address in the search bar to locate your residence.
  2. In the upper right corner of the map, there is an icon that allows you to apply layers to the map; one of the layers is "Trustee Areas."
  3. After toggling on the layers icon, please select "Trustee Areas."

    The areas are as follows:
    1. Yellow area in the far northwest corner of Carlsbad - Trustee Area 1
    2. Green area on the northern border of Carlsbad - Trustee Area 2
    3. Salmon area running along the 5 on the western edge of Carlsbad - Trustee Area 3
    4. Blue area from north of the airport down to the southern border of the district - Trustee Area 4
    5. Pink area running from north to south along the eastern edge of Carlsbad - Trustee Area 5

When the map was approved in February 2022, a goal of the Board was to ensure that each elementary school attendance area was represented by at least two Trustees; accordingly, each elementary school attendance area was divided among at least two Trustees Areas. (Updated 2/26/2022)

In 2017, the Carlsbad Unified Board of Trustees converted from an at-large election system (where board members are selected by voters from across CUSD) to a by-district system (where board members are selected by voters only in the area they represent). Each of the five elected members of the Carlsbad Unified Board of Trustees represents a specific geographic area.

Every ten years, local governments use new census data to redraw their district lines to rebalance each area and reflect how local populations have changed.

In February 2022, the Carlsbad Unified Board of Trustees adopted a new Trustee Area map, in alignment with the California Voting Rights Act and Education Code Section 5019.5.

The approved Trustee Areas are reflected in this map. To find your voting district, you can also search your home address in this interactive map. (In the upper right corner of the map, under the "Select Boundaries" dropdown, please select "Trustee Areas.")
